Journey to becoming a Developer: an Administrators story

As a system operator we sometimes have to create scripts to maintain our infrastructure. However because of DevOps some of us have taken a path to move more towards a developer role. That journey can be a bit tough specially if you don’t have the proper support in place. Fortunately for me I had some help along the way and they gave me some direction that has improved my development. Here is a list of small things to help you on that journey:

Victor Palma

Victor Palma has a passion for open source technologies, that started from the first dot com days. He began his career as a Network Administrator later on becoming PHP Developer in 2002, eventually advancing to roles as a Systems Administrator, OS Engineer; focusing on site reliability. He always knew his future was with the open source community. Today he incorporates his years of experience in technology management, system administration, and network administration into his current role at as a Sr. Enterprise Architect at Rackspace Hosting. Coupled with his experience various sectors ranging from start-ups to large pharmaceuticals, and financial institutions, Victor is responsible for supporting Rackspace’s Hybrid infrastructure and providing high availability solutions to help solve complex problems
